The tile has become a decorative element in many countries. In Portugal it has, for over five centuries now, stood as an important support for artistic expression. The taste for a decorative involvement and for a free and exuberant painting style, always adjusted to the architectural spaces, is transmitted to the work in a spontaneous and creative way. Monastery of the Saviour of Travanca
The Monastery of Travanca, considered one of the most important Benedictine temples in the country, represents one of the most rhythmic spaces of Romanesque architecture in Portugal. The tower, which should date from the late 13th century or early 14th century, deserves special attention for being one of our highest medieval towers.
Painting Tiles Experience
The tile is one of the strongest expressions of national culture and one of the most original contributions of the genius of the Portuguese people to the universal culture, having surpassed the mere utilitarian function or decorative art purposes, and attained the status of transcendent Art. Test your skills and discover your artistic facet...
Lunch at the restaurant Quinta da Lama
AFTERNOON Archaeological Site of Freixo
The Roman-Celtic structure erected in Tongobriga by the Emperor Augustus, matured politically, administratively and economically, resulting in the creation of a city. The excavation allows to conclude that in the end of the 1st century, early 2nd century, Tongobriga appears as civitas, with preponderance over the surrounding area.
EVENING Dinner at the restaurant Casa do Lavrador

MORNING Breakfast at the hotel and check-out
Monastery of the Saviour of Paço de Sousa
A monument quite crucial for understanding the architecture of the Romanesque of the Tâmega and Sousa. Its singular features, in architecture as in sculpture, and the fact that it retains the tomb of Egas Moniz, the schoolmaster and governor of the first king of Portugal, turn this former Benedictine monastery into one of the most appealing and prestigious testimonies of the Portuguese Romanesque architecture.
