Following a tradition of over three centuries, on Maundy Thursday the banks of the Douro and Tâmega light up again to welcome one of the most unique religious events of the Tâmega and Sousa: the procession of “Endoenças”. A cultural event that, this year (2012), is trying to go into the "Guinness World Records." Be enchanted by the heritage of this region, by the traditions, smells, sounds and tastes of the Holy Week.

1st day - Maundy Thursday

AFTERNOON Meeting at a time and place to be determined
Church of Saint Claire of Torrão
Visit to the Church, starting point of the Procession of the Passion of Our Lord, also known as the Procession of “Endoenças”.
EVENING Embark at the pier of Entre-os-Rios
Watch the procession from the river Douro. Candles and "fire boats" give a mystical aura to the ceremony, illuminating the river crossing from the Church of Torrão in the municipality of Marco de Canaveses, to the Chapel of Saint Sebastian, in Entre-os-Rios, in the municipality of Penafiel. A welcome cocktail and dinner will be served on board.

Participate in the Sermon of the Gathering, which marks the meeting between the figures of Jesus Christ and Our Lady of Sorrows.


2nd day - Good Friday

Historical Centre and Municipal Museum of Penafiel
A living example of heritage richness, with the typical streets of picturesque balconies and national monuments, which keep the history of second oldest city in the district of Porto and the third oldest in Northern Portugal. In the Centre, obligatory stop at the renovated Municipal Museum of Penafiel, that was given the Museum of the Year award in 2010.

Church of Saint Michael of Entre-os-Rios
The Church of Entre-os-Rios is located in an important area at the period of the Reconquest. The creation of the territory of Anegia is documented since 870. The first reference to the Church dates back to the late 11th century, although the current temple does not correspond to such late times It was subject to reform works in the 14th century.

Museum of "Broa" (corn-bread)
Experience the cycle of bread in outdoor museum, comprising a set of recovered mills. Try the corn bread, the “vinho verde” (wine) and a homemade sausage in this open-air Museum.
Memorial of Ermida
A monument of great interest and that corresponds to a typology of which only six buildings are left in the whole country.

3rd day - Holy Saturday

Monastery of Saint Mary of Pombeiro
Saint Mary of Pombeiro was one of the most important Benedictine monasteries of Entre Douro e Minho. Founded by D. Gomes Echiegues and his wife Gontroda in 1102, it has its roots in an ancient monastic community. Despite the extensive work it was submitted to in the 17th and 18th centuries, it still keeps the plan, the apsioles and the main portal of its medieval foundation. The main portal capitals are a remarkable example of Romanesque sculpture.
House of the "Pão-de-Ló" of Margaride
Taste the famous "Pão de Ló" (sponge cake) and the “Cavacas” of Margaride, in their House Museum in Felgueiras, and enjoy the huge wood-fired ovens, built in 1730, on the occasion of its foundation.
Lunch at the restaurant Brazão
AFTERNOON Archaeological Museum of the Hill Fort of Sanfins 
This museum is sheltered in an 18th century building, known as the Church House or The Manor of Brandões, integrated in a group of historic sites that also includes the ancient parish spaces.
