According to the legend, the foundation of the Monastery of Cárquere is grounded on the miraculous healing of King Afonso Henriques, who would have been born with a deformity in the legs. This miracle was the work of Our Lady of Cárquere, as a response to a plea by D. Egas Moniz de Ribadouro, the schoolmaster and governor of the first king of Portugal.

Caldas de Aregos
The Caldas de Aregos have been here since the 12th century, when D. Mafalda, Queen of Portugal, commissioned the construction of an inn, one of the first among the many thermal spas which followed over time. The legend says that to enable the crossing of the river, the first kings of Portugal created for the poor of that time, the so-called "Barcas de por Deus” (Barges of God), free passages in places where the people needed most.

The Roman-Celtic structure erected in Tongobriga by the Emperor Augustus, matured politically, administratively and economically, resulting in the creation of a city. Bridge of Esmoriz
Set over the river Ovil, the Bridge of Esmoriz is framed within a landscape still marked by a strong rurality. Consisting of a single round arch, it is integrated in the set of road crossings associated with the religious and economic importance of its neighbour, the Monastery of Ancede.
Monastery of Saint Andrew of Ancede
The origins of the Monastery of Ancede go back to the 12th century, and the earliest known reference, from 1120, states its connection to the Clerics Regular of Saint Augustine. For several centuries this Monastery held a considerable land assets linked to wine production, which allowed her to enjoy great economic power. Chapel of Our Lady of Deliverance of Fandinhães
The current Chapel of Fandinhães is what remains of the parish church of Saint Martin, significant testimony of the roaming of the teams of craftsmen, in the Romanesque era. The nave of this church, in ruins, was demolished in 1873 and its stone was then reused in the expansion of the current parish church of Saint Clement.
Memorial of Alpendorada
The Memorials of Alpendorada, Sobrado, Ermida and Santo António are, according to the legend, related to Princess Mafalda, daughter of King Sancho I and granddaughter of King Afonso Henriques. These are traditionally referred to as a stopping point on the transfer of her body to the Monastery of Arouca. These monuments have a symbolic value of great interest, especially since this typology can only be found in the Portuguese territory.
