The Avessadas Convent, also known as the Shrine of the Infant Jesus of Prague, belongs to the Discalced Carmelite Order and can be visited for pilgrimage or relaxation.

In 1960, the foundation stone was laid for what was to become the Novitiate House and the Shrine of the Infant Jesus of Prague, made up of two equal bodies, separated by the Shrine Church.

In 1980, part of the convent was adapted into a house of prayer and in 1982 the Spirituality Centre was inaugurated.

The great annual pilgrimage to the Shrine of the Infant Jesus of Prague takes place on the first Sunday in June.
