Considered the town's ex-libris, the view from this belvedere "covers leagues of horizon", as Eça de Queiroz wrote in his letters, adding that "there is everything in that blessed mountain", such as "beautiful valleys, secular oak and chestnut groves, waterfalls, orchards, flowers". The height of St. John's rock also turns it into an attractive spot for the practice of extreme sports, namely rock climbing and rappel.
