At the point where the two rivers meet, there is a small piece of land called Ilha do Castelo ou dos Amores [Island of the Castle or of Love]. Its shape resembles that of ancient fortifications and, hence, it is associated with a Moorish castle. That is the origin of the name Castelo de Paiva. It is a great place for water sports.
