Located at the highest point of the town of Penafiel, the Sameiro Sanctuary is one of the most famous and visited places in the region. The Sanctuary was built in the late 19th century, as the beautiful and romantic garden that surrounds it, featuring fountains, a bandstand, a cruise and the "little shrines" of Our Lady of Mercy.
