Gestaçô, Baião
Every year, thousands of wooden canes come out of Eduardo Cardoso's hands, to be used by university students at the 'Queima das Fitas' (ribbon burning) graduation ceremonies. They are made of lódão (Celtis australis), a shrub that grows in the humid areas near the River Douro, and are less fancy than those famously produced in Gestaçô, which are made from cherry tree or chestnut tree wood.
