Penafiel - Theatre
Centro de Interpretação da Escultura Românica
Largo Dr. Armando Melo, Abragão, Penafiel
The Interpretation Centre of Romanesque Sculpture in Abragão, Penafiel, will host the play 'A Country That Is the Night' on Saturday 15 August at 9.30 pm.
Starring the Nova Companhia theatre company, this production is inspired by a fictional encounter between Sophia and Jorge de Sena, chronicling the two writers’ secret farewell in 1959, shortly before Sena fled to Brazil, pursued by the PIDE.
Straddling the line between historical drama and documentary theatre, the play reflects on freedom, fear and resistance, depicting a country divided between those who dream of change and those who fear revolution. A story from the past that resonates unsettlingly in the present.
A production by Ponto C - Cultura e Criatividade, part of the 'Fora de Portas' programme, with free admission subject to ticket booking.
