Deolinda Pinheiro - Rota do Românico

Mr. Abílio and his family started to take care of the Church of Vila Verde, and to open its door to visitors, after the extensive works carried out in that monument in 2006. It was in this Church that Mr. Abílio spent his days with his friends, so he held it in great esteem. 'This was a world to him', confesses his widow, Mrs. Deolinda, who took over the care of the Church, with the help of her daughter Isabel.

Both with great devotion to Saint Mammes, they remember some of the stories told by Mr. Abílio, who used to say that ""Saint Mammes was the defender of the intestines and that he was a shepherd, guarding his sheep.'

They say that it was very important for the parish that the Church of Vila Verde became part of the Route of the Romanesque: 'this then goes the world over, we are seen everywhere and this is beautiful! It's a fine heritage... for people to discover.'
