Fátima Moreira - Rota do Românico

Mrs. Fátima looks after the altars of the Church of Cabeça Santa, together with her mother, and sings in the choir. It is a very special Church for her: she was christened, received her communions and got married there.
She tells us that this Church used to be called São Salvador da Gândara, and that it became known as the Church of Cabeça Santa (Holy Head) because 'a skull appeared. They said it belonged to Saint John the Baptist, but then they stole it!.'
She says that there are more visitors, now that the Church is part of the Route of the Romanesque, and reveals that people are not aware of its great value. 'Many come with the curiosity of seeing the skull!,' she jokes.
